Chichibu Shachu (Yatai Music Band)

Chichibu Yatai music is one of the most popular folklore music in Japan. It is performed by a group of players of taiko (drums), fue (bamboo flute) and kane (gong), on the occasion of the Chichibu Festival in December. The Chichibu Festival is known as one of the three float festivals of Japan, along with the Gion Festival in Kyoto and the Takayama Festival in Gifu. The essence of Chichibu Yatai music consists in its dynamism as well as the artistry of the performance.

In 1954 the society for the preservation of Chichibu Shachu (Yatai Music Band) was established by the late Mr. Ukichi TAKANO I, who was a great performer of Chichibu Yatai music and became the first President of the society. In November of the same year, the members of the society, headed by Mr. Ukichi TAKANO I, took part in "The All Kanto District Festival Music Band Competition Championship". They won the first prize and were awarded the Cup by Prince Takamatsu. Since then, the Chichibu Shachu has devoted considerable efforts to the training of players of a younger generation, and to the popularisation of the music through performances at public halls.

In 1955 Mr. Ukichi TAKANO I was designated as "intangible cultural property" by Saitama Prefecture. In 1975 the government of Japan conferred a decoration on him for his long contribution to the preservation of traditional culture. In 1985 he founded "KOBUNKAN", a private exercise-hall for practicing Chichibu Yatai music, at his own expense in commemoration of 30 years after the designation of the cultural assets. Today there are about 900 trainees in this exercise- hall. The training sessions have also been held outside the exercise-hall, and the total number of trainees in- and outside the exercise-hall surpasses 3,000. People of all ages and both sexes come to practice not only from the whole country but also from foreign countries.

In public performance, Chichibu Shachu participated in such events as the Japan International Exposition, Kobe Portopia and Tsukuba Exposition. It was also honoured with the inspection of their Majesties the Emperor and Empress Showa (Hirohito), and had an opportunity to perform in the presence of Her Imperial Highness Princess Chichibu and His Imperial Highness Prince Takamatsu. In 1976 it made the first overseas tour to Canada for 39 days with a successful result. It has performed in fifteen countries such as Australia, the United States of America, China, Rumania, Poland, and Russia. In each country the performance met with great acclaim for its artistry and technique.

Chichibu Shachu visits Thailand for the first time, and will perform at the Ramwong-Bonodori Festival at the Bangkok Metropolitan Youth Welfare Centre on Saturday, 20 November, from 17:00 hours. It will also perform at the Fourteenth National Cultural Festival, organised by the Office of the National Cultural Commission, in Krabi on 22 and 23 November.

ชิชิบุ ฉะชู วงดนตรีงานเทศกาล

วงดนตรีชิชิบุ ฉะชู เป็นหนึ่งในวงดนตรีพื้นเมืองที่มีชื่อเสียงที่สุดของญี่ปุ่น ประกอบด้วยผู้เล่นกลอง (ไทโขะ) ขลุ่ยไม้ไผ่ (ฟุเอะ) และ คาเนะ (เครื่องประกอบจังหวะ) ที่แสดงในงานเทศกาลประจำปีของเมืองชิชิบุ ในเดือนธันวาคม เทศกาลดังกล่าวเป็นหนึ่งในสามของเทศกาลงานแห่ที่มีชื่อเสียงที่สุดของญี่ปุ่น นอกจากเทศกาลกิออนของเกียวโต และ เทศกาลทาคายามะของจังหวัดกิฝุ หัวใจสำคัญของดนตรีชนิดนี้คือความกึกก้องที่ควบไปกับความอ่อนโยนของเสียงดนตรีแต่ละชนิด

สมาคมอนุรักษ์ดนตรีพื้นเมืองชิชิบุ ฉะชู ก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อปี 1954 โดยมีนายอุคิจิ ทาคาโน่ที่ 1 นักดนตรีมือหนึ่งของวงเป็นนายกสมาคมคนแรก เดือนพฤศจิกายนปีเดียวกันนั้น วงชิชิบุ ฉะชู ภายใต้การนำของอุคิจิ ทาคาโน่ที่ 1 ก็ได้รับพระราชทานถ้วยชนะเลิศ "การแข่งขันดนตรีเทศกาลทั่วภูมิภาคคันโต" จากเจ้าชายทาคามัตสึ จากนั้นมาพวกเขาก็ได้ทุ่มเทพลังกายพลังใจให้กับการฝึกซ้อมรุ่นน้องต่อมา พร้อม ๆ กับการแสดงที่เรียกความนิยมจากผู้ชมครั้งแล้วครั้งเล่า

ในปี 1955 อุคิจิ ทาคาโน่ที่ 1 ก็ได้รับเกียรติจากจังหวัดไซตามะ ให้เป็นสมบัติทางวัฒนธรรมที่มีชีวิต ต่อมาในปี 1975 รัฐบาลญี่ปุ่นก็มอบเครื่องราชอิสริยาภรณ์ให้เขาในฐานะที่เป็นบุคคลผู้มีผลงานส่งเสริมและอนุรักษ์วัฒนธรรมอันเก่าแก่ของชาติมาเป็นเวลาอันยาวนาน ในปี 1985 ท่านก็ได้สร้างโรงฝึกซ้อมดนตรีเทศกาลขึ้นด้วยเงินส่วนตัวเพื่อเป็นที่ระลึกถึงวาระครบรอบ 30 ปีของการได้รับแต่งตั้งให้เป็นสมบัติทางวัฒนธรรมของชาติ จวบจนวันนี้ มีผู้มาฝึกซ้อมที่โรงฝึกแห่งนี้ประมาณได้ 900 คน และยังกะประมาณได้ว่ามีผู้ฝึกซ้อมดนตรีชนิดนี้ทั้งใน และนอกโรงฝึกอีกกว่า 3000 คน ทุกเพศ ทุกวัยจากทั่วประเทศ และต่างประเทศ

วงชิชิบุ ฉะชู เคยแสดงต่อหน้าสาธารณชนใหญ่ ๆ มาแล้วหลายงาน อาทิ งานเอ็กซโปที่ญี่ปุ่น โกเบปอร์โตเปีย และ งานเอ็กซโปที่ซึคุบะ นอกจากนี้พวกเขายังได้รับเกียรติให้แสดงต่อหน้าพระที่นั่งจักรพรรดิและจักรพรรดินีฮิโรฮิโต เจ้าชายและเจ้าหญิงชิชิบุ และเจ้าชายทาคามัตสึ ปี 1976 ออกแสดงในต่างประเทศเป็นครั้งแรกที่ประเทศคานาดาเป็นเวลา 39 วัน และประสบความสำเร็จอย่างสูง หลังจากนั้นก็แสดงในอีก 15 ประเทศ ได้แก่ ออสเตรเลีย สหรัฐอเมริกา จีน รูมาเนีย โปแลนด์ และ รัสเซีย เป็นต้น ทุกครั้งได้รับการต้อนรับและชื่นชมในสุนทรียภาพและเทคนิคการแสดงอย่างมาก

คณะนักดนตรีชิชิบุ ฉะชู จะมาแสดงในเมืองไทยเป็นครั้งแรกเดือนพฤศจิกายนนี้ โดยจะเปิดการแสดงในงานรำวงบงโอโดหริ ที่ศูนย์เยาวชนกรุงเทพมหานคร ดินแดง ในวันเสาร์ที่ 20 พฤศจิกายน ตั้งแต่เวลา 17.00 น. และจะร่วมแสดงในงานมหกรรมวัฒนธรรมแห่งชาติครั้งที่ 14 กระบี่เบิกฟ้าอันดามัน เฉลิมพระเกียรติซึ่งจัดโดยสำนักงานคณะกรรมการวัฒนธรรมแห่งชาติ ที่จังหวัดกระบี่ ในวันที่ 22 และ 23 พฤศจิกายนนี้ด้วย
