Aichi Triennale will take place for the first time in 2010 at Aichi prefecture, start from August 21 to October 31, 2010.

The theme for this first time will be "Art and Cities", it will introduce the world cutting-age movement through modern art exhibitions and performances of theatrical arts.

Not only the international exhibition of contemporary art by artists from all over the world, but also the exhibitions based on the results of a competition for young artists will be held. As well as performances in which performing arts such as dance, music, theatre, the latest in contemporary dance and innovative opera productions, ballet recitals and concerts, workshops offering training in art and stage production will be held.

One of the characteristics of the Aichi Triennale is taking the maximum advantage of a mixed use facility, the Aichi Art Center that has a museum and a hall. Also, the Triennale is aggressively showing performing arts in various genres.

Moreover, various programs are prepared such as the "Kid Triennale" where children can join directly. This is different from the general exhibition.

Furthermore, Aichi Triennale seeks applications for a competition of inspiring programs of contemporary art exhibition (personal exhibitions will be accepted with or without recommendations from others) two times.

First, nine winners will be selected to hold their exhibitions in the art spaces G, H and X in the Aichi Arts Center. Subsidy grants of up to one million yen are available. The submitted program must be unannounced and original.

In addition, we will seek applications for the second round of competition to select twelve winners on exhibition programs to be carried out in vacant buildings or stores, or utilizing outward walls at Choja-machi area (around 2-chome, Nishiki, Naka-ku, Nagoya City).

For the second competition, applications will be accepted in January. Further information will be announced soon.
