Based on the popular manga series "Darling wa Gaikokujin." written by Saori Oguri. "My Darling is a Foreigner" tells the story of a Japanese woman and an American man as they enter into a relationship and eventually marry. Saori is a manga artist, while Tony is a language geek. As the couple grows closer, Saori is inundated with strange questions about the language from Tony. The differences between their respective language and culture are something the couple has to deal with.

Hiroshi accidentally hits a young woman with his car. He flees the scene for home and confesses to his wife, Yoko. They tries to destroy the car after moving it into the house. Hiroshi,unable to bear the guilt, finally goes to the police station intending to confess but learns that another man has been arrested for the crime.

The story begins with the appearance of Hiroshi's father, Sasaichi , who was long believed to have died years ago. Sasaichi brings nothing but trouble to the well-ordered suburban life of Hiroshi and his family. When Sasaichi is hospitalized with terminal liver disease, the entire family mournes their loss, comforted somewhat by the rich memories that will live with them forever.

The film concerns a young boy, Taichi Ogawara, who finds a fox cub by the side of the road and takes it home to care for it. The cub is blind, deaf and mute and Taichi names it Helen. Taichi finds himself having many things in common with the cub, but later he finds out it has a tumor growing inside its brain. Taichi desperately tries to find a cure and, meanwhile, he realizes how the cub has inspired him through its own way of struggling with the tumor.
